Do schools kill creativity?

~ a reflection

Creativity makes life so much more interesting. Without people's creativity, we wouldn't have

the amazing things we have today, from technology to clothing items. I believe that schools

tend to dim the light of many students, and there's a theme of trying to have students

conform and be uniform, especially in countries like China. We're teaching children to be the

same and to think the same, and we're forcing skills that we believe are important. At least, that's how it's been for many years, including when I was still in school.

I find now that as teachers in this day and age, we see the importance of not dimming

children's light and instead nurturing the diff erences and uniqueness that each student

possesses. As society evolves at an unprecedented rate, it's becoming increasingly clear that

our current mindset won't necessarily benefit the next generation. The skills and values that

were once considered essential may no longer hold the same weight in the future. As such,

educators must foster creativity from a young age and instill in children the significance of

taking risks to achieve their full potential and contribute to society as they get older.

Programs like TeachNow are some of the things that will help develop educators’ growth

mindset and encourage them to make teaching relevant for today's and tomorrow's children.
